Supportive Housing Mayoral Town Hall
Homeward NYC is a member of the Supportive Housing Network of New York because we know that supportive housing providers are stronger together. Supportive housing is one of the most powerful tools available to address chronic homelessness.
On April 8, 2021, The Network, in partnership with Trinity Church Wall Street, Enterprise Community Partners and the National Association of Social Workers – New York City Chapter, hosted its first ever mayoral forum… A NEW New York: A Mayoral Town Hall on Supportive Housing.
Mayoral candidates were asked to discuss their plans to end homelessness and ensure the development and continued operation of supportive and affordable housing in the five boroughs. Supportive housing staff and tenants asked questions on wage equity, crisis response, NIMBYism and more.
Z., a young adult tenant at Homeward NYC’s West Harlem supportive housing site, was a featured questioner. Z. asked about candidates’ plans for building community support for supportive housing.
The forum was moderated by Janaki Chadha (Reporter, POLITICO New York) and Tierra Labrada (Senior Policy Analyst, The Supportive Housing Network of New York).
The following mayoral candidates participated in this Zoom chat town hall: Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, Shaun Donovan, Kathryn Garcia, Dianne Morales, New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer, Joycelyn Taylor and Andrew Yang.
