Working in Coalition for Just Pay

On May 25, Homeward NYC staff gathered for the #JustPay rally at City Hall Park to call for a cost of living adjustment for human services workers under city contract.

Nonprofits like Homeward NYC provide most of the housing, care and other services for New York City’s homeless persons. However, city contracts are underfunded.

Private donations from generous donors like you support our Life Skills Program, technology upgrades, program expansions, and other expenses not covered by city contract.

The City has not provided a cost of living adjustment for nearly three years. Homeward NYC has paid (out of pocket) to all staff a modest end of year bonus in recognition of their hard work and dedication.

Homeward NYC is smaller than most of our peer organizations in shelter services and supportive housing. That’s part of why we work in coalition with other nonprofits to provide housing policy development and issue advocacy. The #JustPay Rally was organized by members of the Human Services Council. Hundreds of human services workers, allies and elected officials came out to show their support.

We work in coalition because we know we’re stronger together. We are an active member of the Coalition for Runaway and Homeless Youth, Homeless Services United, Human Services Council, NYC Continuum of Care, and The Supportive Housing Network of New York.
