Malik, a supportive housing resident, turned 33 at the beginning of October. When first coming to Homeward NYC, Malik felt lost without a clear sense of self or self-confidence. But now?
“It took some time, and I was early in my transitioning from female to male. So a lot of that with family and stuff, it was it was really hard to navigate in the very beginning, but now I can say I’m in a lot a better place. I feel my purpose. If you would have asked me ten years ago, what do you think your purpose is? I wouldn’t have been able to tell you.
But now it’s, you know, it’s just for me to be here, to be alive, to be walking on the solid ground and being an example for all the others that’s coming up beneath me. There’s going to be someone younger than me who’s kind of went through the same things that I went through, and I want to just be that kind of representation that it’s okay.”
Thank you, Malik, for sharing your story!
