Are you 18-25 with barriers to living independently and looking for LGBTQIA housing?

Our newest LGBTQIA-affirming supportive housing site is Homeward Central Harlem. This nine-story building at 15 W. 118th Street opened in October 2023 with 50 fully furnished studio apartments.

Apartments available to very low-income young adults aged 18 to 25 at entry who are experiencing barriers to living independently (behavioral, functional, or physical conditions). Supportive housing is affordable housing with voluntary onsite support services.

  • 50 fully furnished studio apartments
  • Community spaces: community room w/ kitchen, computer & media room, laundry room, exercise room, terraces
  • Rental assistance thru NYC 15/15 Initiative (rent based on income)
  • Live-in building superintendent
  • 24/7 onsite security

Conveniently located near Marcus Garvey Park, social service providers & a major shopping corridor along 125th Street.

Closest subways: 116th Street 2/3 and 125th Street 4/5/6 just three blocks away

 


 

Program Features:

  • Onsite services: counseling, case management, connections to community resources, group activities, skills-building & empowerment programs
  • Tenant services staff: life skills coaches, case managers & clinicians
  • Case managers work w/ tenants to identify strengths & needs, and develop an individualized service plan
  • Individual & group counseling w/ Harm Reduction, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Wellness Self-Management, Motivational Interviewing & Peer Mentoring
  • Resident Advisory Council: dialogue & collaboration between tenants & staff

 


How do I apply?

Must be NYC 15/15 Initiative eligible:

  • Be aged 18-25 at entry
  • Are homeless (shelter or street homeless) or at risk of homelessness (experiencing continuous housing instability)
  • Experience high City service utilization including persons w/ one or more of the following: are aging out of foster care, have behavioral health conditions, complex trauma, or other barriers to independent living
  • Want to live in an LGBTQIA-affirming community!

As of December 2023, Central Harlem is full. However, our sites in the Bronx and West Harlem have current vacancies. Please note that our West Harlem and Bronx sites have slightly different requirements for the formerly homeless LGBTQIA young adults served.
